Clinical Core
The goals of the Clinical Core of the Massachusetts ADRC are:
-To examine, diagnose, and enroll individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias into the ADRC Patient Registry;
-To characterize the neurological, psychiatric and neuropsychological features of AD;
-To refer carefully-evaluated patients to specific research projects funded by either the Massachusetts ADRC or other local and national AD projects.Currently, the Clinical Core supports two research projects:
The first, directed by Dr. Mel B. Feany, examines the role of proline-directed phosphorylation in determining tau neurotoxicity in Drosophilia.
The second project, directed by Dr. Bradley T. Hyman, proposes to develop new technologies to tackle the question of tau conformation and tau expression at the cellular level, using neuropathological material from the ADRC brain bank and from colleagues across the country.
