Dr. Gomperts’ clinical interests are cognitive impairment and dementias, such as dementia with Lewy bodies and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. His clinical research interests include the development of blood and imaging biomakers for cognitive impairment in dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease.
Dr. Gomperts’ basic science interests focus on understanding how dopamine cells and cells of the hippocampus communicate with one another and with their target regions to guide behaviors.

Dr. Gomperts received his medical school and neuroscientific training at the University of California, San Francisco, and completed his residency in neurology at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Partners Neurology Residency Program. He then completed fellowships in the Memory Disorders and the Movement Disorders Units at the MGH. Dr. Gomperts sees patients and conducts clinical research at the MGH, and also performs basic research with Matthew A. Wilson, PhD, at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology.
